The Noosa Malibu Club is pleased to announce the major participation of Global Surf Industries as the primary partner in the 2007 Noosa Festival of Surfing, together with the support of APN News & Media.
The Festival, beginning March 5, 2007 is now a week long celebration of Longboarding, Stand Up Paddleboarding, Music, Film and Surf Culture.
Mark Kelly, the Managing Director of Global Surf Industries, said “We hold the Noosa Festival of Surfing in high regard; it fits really well with our company mantra - Life is better when you surf”. “Everyone at Global Surf Industries sees it as a wonderful opportunity for us to be involved, and our aim is to elevate the Noosa Festival of Surfing to a new level of enjoyment for the competitors, spectators and for everyone that loves to surf." Global Surf Industries intends operating their entire company out of Noosa Heads for the week, bringing in all their staff, surfboard designers and team riders, plus unveiling some of their great new designs for the 2008 season.
Darryl Olson, the Regional General Manager (Sunshine Coast) of APN News and Media, has also firmly backed the Noosa Festival of Surfing through the very generous support of the "Sunshine Coast Daily", and the regional papers such as the "Noosa News". Darryl, and the Assistant Editor of the Sunshine Coast Daily, Bill Hoffman, are both keen surfers themselves, and are confident the Noosa Festival of Surfing will reach new heights in 2007 and beyond.
Norm Innis, the President of the Noosa Malibu Club, said “The whole club is overwhelmed with the support we have received for the Noosa Festival of Surfing. The event is a truly international one with competitors coming from all over the globe”. “Global Surf Industries is perfectly suited as our major presenting sponsor and the Sunshine Coast Daily has been right behind us from the beginning”, said Mr. Innis.
“It is great to find core surfing people in all walks of life, and all kinds of businesses, prepared to get behind an event such as ours", said Norm. In addition to the primary sponsors, the Noosa Festival of Surfing will also feature the Odyssey 20/20 Men's Pro Longboard, and the Golden Breed Noserider.
Norm Innis said, "It's great to welcome Odyssey 20/20 sunglasses to the Noosa Festival of Surfing. Jim Lazarides, the Founder/Designer, has been a long time friend of mine, and his support for surfing backs up the core nature of his product line and his commitment to surfing. Similarly, Nick van de Merwe, the Managing Director of Golden Breed, has been a great backer of the Noserider event, and longboarding in general, for many years."
Of course, an event of the magnitude of the Noosa Festival of Surfing can not be conducted without the support of many organisations and businesses.
For 2007, the Noosa Malibu Club is proud to announce event partners:
Queensland Events, Tourism Noosa, ASP Australasia, Surfing Australia, Coastalwatch, Classic Malibu, Noosa Longboards, John Madill, Warren Evans, Finch Swimwear, the Noosa Heads SLSC, Cafe Le Monde, the Sheraton Resort Noosa, Noosa Crest, along with the many other accommodation outlets, and local businesses, that all help to make the Noosa Festival of Surfing as good as it can be."

GLOBAL SURF INDUSTRIES TO SPONSOR SURFING AMERICA MEMBER SURF SCHOOL PROGRAM
Los Angeles, Calif., - June 16, 2006 - Global Surf Industries (GSI) is pleased to announce it recently signed an agreement to sponsor the Surfing America Member Surf School program. Launched January 1, 2006, the Member Surf School program's goal is to recognize and endorse specific surf schools around the country whose operational and professional standards are of the highest quality. GSI is excited to partner with this governing body to help progress the quality of surf education in the United States and is committed to the positive development of surfing at the grass roots level.
Surfing America, the International Surfing Association (ISA) recognized National Governing Body of surfing in the United States, aims to endorse surf schools that meet standards of the highest caliber. These standards include fair instructor-to-student ratio, teaching progression, strong safety practices and a respect for the beach and local residents. While Surfing America has received several applications for membership in 2006, to date the organization has given its official stamp of approval to only three schools in the United States.
"In my view, the recent move by Surfing America to enter the surfing education arena is probably the most positive step in the history of surfing in the USA. Surfing America will over time be able to help ensure that people will receive quality surf education. I see a future that is bright with multi-level surf education offerings, not only for beginners but also for intermediate and elite programs," said Mark Kelly, founder of GSI.
Previously, the surf education industry had been run with very few guidelines or governance. Noting the 2006 Sports Participation Topline Report; surfing is the second fastest growing sport in the U.S. and enrollment in camps continuing to rise. GSI and Surfing America are setting out to instill a new level of professionalism to surf education. Surfing education has always been isolated within the industry in the past, however, this partnership strives to strengthen the development of surf schools while dually positioning new participants as target consumers within the multi-million dollar surf retail industry.
To this effect, Surfing America has endorsed GSI's soft board line; Sunset Softboards and Supersoft surfboards to offer a range of board choices from the GSI catalogue for surfers at any level to be able to participate and learn the sport. These soft surfboards are responsive in the water yet provide safety for the beginner to intermediate level surfer. By incorporating more credibility through utilizing professional surfers as instructors, increasing board choices for beginners and introducing stricter guidelines for camps, surfing education will continue to drive sales within the market. GSI's involvement with Surfing America is an exciting bond that will bring assurance to the ranks of surfing education.
"Surfing America is very pleased to have GSI onboard as a sponsor of our Member Surf School program," said Mike Gerard, Surfing America's executive director. "As the National Governing Body (NGB) for the sport of surfing in the United States, it is incumbent upon the organization to take a leadership role in identifying and supporting those schools which best serves the general public and the sport. GSI's support of Surfing America demonstrates their commitment to our mission. And we can't thank them enough for getting behind us."

Global Surf Industries now truly GLOBAL
Global Surf Industries today unveiled their updated distributor line up for 2006. Until recently GSI operated only in the US and Australia but demand for their brands of surfboards from surfers around the world has seen the ramp up on the distributor front bought forward.
With Distributors now in place in South Africa, Japan, New Zealand, UK, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Sweden, Netherlands and Israel. With sales directly to stores in 10 other countries. GSI’s portfolio of brands currently stands are 10, these brands range from entry level softboards all the way through to high performance short and longboards designs by the some of the worlds best surfboard designers. The range also encompasses a number of new and traditional technologies.
“The level of professionalism at retail end of the surf industry worldwide has been increasing because of the demands of the consumer. In the hardgoods sector there is a definite trend from ‘wannabee’ brand wearers to people who want to make the transition and get into surfing as a pastime. For decades boards haven’t been part of the retail equation for a number of reasons but times have changed. I believe that we have been successful because we offer a full retail orientated surfboard program that allows the retailers, no matter what country they are in, to give more space to boards because it is worth it” said President and Managing Director Mark Kelly. He added “Our entire program has more or less been written by our retailers, their needs are our guiding light. The way we see it is that if we can make our customers happy then they can make their customers happy, the really fantastic opportunity that we have in front of us is to make sure we do this over the long term”
