The Super Fish II has been updated for 2012 making one of our most popular boards even better. The idea behind the Super Fish design is to offer a board that rides, paddles and catches waves easily regardless of your ability. The generous outline and smooth rocker makes this board incredibly easy to ride. One of the most notable features of the Super Fish design is the step deck. This gives the board greater buoyancy while maintaining a performance rail profile making the board sensitive and easier to turn.
The new bottom contour features a deep single-to-double concave providing greater speed and acceleration. The tail wings are now more defined creating bite off the bottom and quicker release through turns. The swallowtail is also shallower than before. This adds surface area under your back foot meaning more speed in flatter waves.
FCS plugs are set up in a tri-quad configuration so you can ride it as a thruster or a quad, and our X2 Epoxy technology uses a multi-layered sandwich process that produces a light yet incredibly durable surfboard that’s ideal for travel.
If you're looking for a high volume, easy to ride surfboard that'll increase your wave count then the Super Fish II is the board for you.

- X2 TECHNOLOGY
X-2 Epoxy is a multi-layered sandwich construction using epoxy resin, woven fiberglass and sheets of thin wood veneer wrapped around a Nanoweld EPS core. This construction method produces a light, extremely durable surfboard that’s particularly strong on the deck. The durability and strength of X-2 Epoxy boards make them ideal for SUP’s, surfers who like to travel, and heavy beach break conditions where other boards are prone to breaking. X-2 Epoxy boards feel solid under your feet and can take an absolute beating while maintaining their appearance for many years. You can find out more about GSI's surfboard construction on our surfboard technologies page

Chris from California, USA says:This review intended for beginners who fear trying a transition style/fish board... I'm 6'1" and about 205-210 depending on the number of burgers/beers. Started surfing 4 months ago on a 9'3" longboard and having a ball, but had trouble with bigger days and steep waves. I wanted to try a slightly shorter or more nimble board to work out the bottom turn as turning the longboard can sometimes seem like a lot of work. I'll grant that I just need to improve, but I'm impatient. To get the sense of a more maneuverable board I demo'd the original Superfish and was shocked that I could get up right away (thought I'd struggle for hours as I went down 1'3" in length). Not a trouble at all. Board felt as stable and paddled well into surf. So I went out and got a 8' Superfish II, and love it. The best thing is that the board seems clearly more maneuverable (even set up as quad), so I'm able to better get up early and make a more abrupt bottom turn--a skill that I'll hone and then bring back to the LB also. I'm clearly a newbie so take this for what it's worth, but the analogy I'd give is that it is like when shaped snow skis first became available on the market. I'd been a lifelong skier, and by snobbery alone continued to ski long slalom skis until I just couldn't find em anymore. Then I reluctantly tried big 'ol fat board shaped skis and wished that I hadn't wasted several seasons without them. I think the superfish board makes the sport more approachable for the beginner for sure, and ultimately I suspect I'll learn faster because of it! Great job, thanks.

Thomas G. Salerno from Florida, USA says:I am 59 years old, 6'2", 205 lbs, have been surfing since the late 60s, and had been riding an 8'0" original Superfish for several years. I recently purchased a new Superfish II X2, and had planned on moving down to a 7'3" model, but realized the new 8'0" had less total volume then the old model, so I bought the 8'0" and am very glad I did. I have surfed it in 2 ft mush, and head high clean and glassy walls. Like my old Superfish, this board catches waves like a longboard, but turns on a dime. I ride it with a quad set up and it generates incredible speed off the bottom, blasts through soupy sections, and holds tighter in the pocket then any board I have ever owned. I really appreciate all the improvements from the softer step deck to the fuller swallow tail. This board is perfection. Thanks for taking it to the next level.

speagen from FL, usa says:I live in Jupiter Florida and having been surfing for over 25 years. I weigh around 195 lbs. I bought the 7'3 7S superfish X2 model. I am also a windsurfer and love the epoxy for both its durability and float. During Sandy last week the board performed great on a offshore wind I think because of the extra weight. I was able to get in early while the young guys on shortboards were struggling with dropping in. I think the quads are faster compared to riding it as a thruster. I researched this board and feel confident in my purchase.

Bob from Texas, USA says:I am 55 and 175lbs. I live near the gulf of mexico (small slow mushy windswell) and travel to Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Hawaii, and northern and southern California regularly. My skills and fitness are average and I spend about 3-4 days a month in the water (not quite a weekend warrior). I have owned the 8' version of this board and now have the 7'3". The 8' Superfish XL poly I had was a phenomenal wave catcher. It took me some time to get used to working the back of the board to make it maneuver but I got the hang of it and loved it. My only regret once I had the hang of it was I wished I had gone shorter. Surfing mostly beach breaks I need something that would turn quicker on takeoff and not pearl. I had the poly version and the glass job was thin on the deck. I have many pressure dings after one season of use. I have had a number of boards but this was the worst I have seen as far as the pressure dings are concerned. I would pass on the poly. Despite the pressure ding problem I loved the float and glide so I decided to pick up a Superfish XL 7'3" X2 epoxy. Quality: So far, NO pressure dings (same rider, same surf). I highly recommend everyone buy the epoxy versions of these boards. The X2 with the tougher deck is my preference. Performance: The 7'3" is much better for a rider my size in the small gutless surf we get on the gulf. I can enjoy anything 2'- overhead and a half with this board. I would characterize the board as very buoyant, and extremely light so it paddles FAST. This is my longboard. Being older I wear out more quickly than I used to. This board makes it easier to paddle and catch waves and I can last longer in the water as a result. This is a great product. Conclusion: If you should surf a longboard (conditions & fitness) but would rather surf a short board this is your board. A great way to have lots of fun on a wave but still be able to catch them with the effort normally exerted on a longboard.
