DESCRIPTION

The Albacore is the simplest finless board in the world. It makes the thrill of finless surfing fun, easy and user friendly. The feeling the Ancient Hawaiians had as they rode their finless Alaia surfboards is now more attainable to more surfers. The Albacore surfs much like a thin wood alaia because of flex, yet it is soft and paddles very well and easily. The EPS core delivers this flex, and makes for surprising control and manoeuvrability. The board bounces from turn to turn and feels light underfoot. It takes the joy of finless surfing out of the advanced surfer’s world and into the realm of the beginner to intermediate surfer. The Albacore is tough, versatile and safe. It can withstand rough treatment and needs no wax or complicated fins. It can be ridden standing or prone and is suitable for almost any wave conditions. The soft round nose and finless tail is infinitely safer than a normal surfboard. With the Albacore I am ready for anything from small slop to powerful double over head tubes, but my favourite surf is head high peaky beach breaks. It brings a new spark to this common surf. With so much versatility on offer the Albacore is hard to beat as the most promising all-round surfboard for any surfer, at any stage of their surfing.
Jake Pedrana, from Australia, recently took the Albacore to Bali, the images below are from his trip. You can read an interview with Jake about his trip and how the Albacore went in the Balinese waves on our blog.Click the "LIVE CHAT" button to chat with a GSI staff member about this product or finding the right product for you.

- SOFTSHELL
- SOFTSHELL TECHNOLOGY
Softshell was developed for surf schools and beginner surfers who required a safe, durable, easy to ride surfboard. Softshell is essentially a thick Polyethylene skin wrapped around the deck and rail of the board, combined with a soft slick bottom surface that keeps novice riders safe in the event of impact.
Using a vacuum construction process eliminates peeling or bubbling and allows Softshell boards to withstand the toughest of treatment, while providing many surfers the opportunity to safely catch their first wave. You can find out more about GSI's surfboard construction on our surfboard technologies page

Tim Silverwood from NSW, Australia says:I just returned from a week up the coast to Byron and I'm absolutely frothing on the Albacore!! Holy crap man, the thing is amazing..I'm on such an incredible trip with it! My whole quiver is jealous as I can't pick up anything else since stepping on it! Had some epic surfs with the finless crew up there led by the patriarch of finless Mr Derek Hynd..there were about 4 of us out there going finless amongst the chaos and smiling our faces off whilst many grimaced in frustration. I'm totally hooked! Even today at Crescent in the onshore I was losing my mind! I had a lot of frustrations with my alias and not being able to paddle on them so this thing is the bomb, it paddles so easy! I told stacks of people who were quizzing me about them up and down to just trust me and get one, even for their kids. I would definitely recommend this board to anyone into riding alternative surf craft, the experience of riding a wave finless has to be sampled to be understood...the satisfaction of sliding out and then regaining trim is amazing and the speed these things pick up is incredible. Get one!

cg from baja sur, mexico says:Wow, the Albacore is so fun! It has taken this old guy a while to get it....however learning is a ton of fun....also a great quad work out.Now after a solid month of sticking to itt and surfing beach breaks and a few classic point breaks....I am hooked.Spins, slides, shove its..all possible...such a blend of skating, snow sliding and surfing. I keep it with me on all surf checks..quick,easy,fun I keep it well padded and out the sun when possible..Thanks GSI and SeaGlass...a winner and keeper!

Zac from Western Au, Australia says:At first i thought the board was a dud, i rode it in just on a head high, steep and dumpy beach break it always nose dived, slid out and was slippery as all hell. But then i decided to take it out on a waist high well formed beach break and how wrong i was, the the thing is pure fun slide slipping, 360's and even getting close to a few shut its. the trick to it is getting down low as i guess it uses your weight better to get you moving. But theres one thing you must do when using the albacore. USE A LEASH, as soon as you fall of that foam board is going to stay with the wave util it hits the beach. Not only is it as fun as hell, its easy to take with you on busses, bikes, skateboards or even ya roller blades. Thanks to the boys at seaglass you've given my summer a whole lot of fun

Bill from queensland, australia says:I was out on my Albacore over the weekend and I met a young chap (around 14 YO) also out on his new Albacore. A while ago, his dad had bought him something hard and pointy to learn on and he had scared himself after getting hit in the head - nearly put him off surfing. Instead, there he was with a massive grin catching heaps of waves, smacking himself into the beach with a whole new level of confidence. It seems your design has saved at least one young chap from giving up.

Mark Shotwell from California, United States says:Picked up an Albacore to teach my sons to surf finless and it has not disappointed them and it has totally surprised and impressed me. My older son (9) is learning to ride it prone and surfed into the beach (literally) and had a great time. The I rode it prone and stand-up last night in really fast chest high peelers into and through the shorebreak. What a blast. The flex created amazing responsiveness and the speed kept me in the curl even when the wave wanted to speed away from me. Even when I was too deep, I would stay prone till I caught up with the curl, then stand- up, get covered and slide my way to the beach. I caught so many waves in 3.5 hours, I could barely walk to my car at the end of my session. If you have been on the fence regarding finless surfing, I hope the price of the Albacore will get you over. Once you try this board, you will be a total convert. Tom, you have done it again. Thanks from me and my son. He is now your newest fan.

Edward from CA, USA says:My neighbor's son Jack - age 10 loved the 5'6" albacore so much I gave it to him. A little base wax goes a long way.I think the longer board is better - more stable. It is really good to work on balance and technique, especially when black balled on prime surf days. Jack's Dad insisted on paying for the board - Thanks for the free shipping. Bode - 8, really likes his 4'11", but still is working on standing up. He is paddling out to the break himself, and feels good about being self sufficient. I think we've got to get out to some more suitable waves, we're still on the inside break, white water, reformed wave riding it to shore break. We'll be sure to surf Blackie's soon. And at 0-2 foot tide at 56th break / echo beach. I've gotta to get a water proof case for my Iphone4. I'll be sure to get photo's to you! Got to go and hit the surf! Thanks again, Edward and Surf Crew

Mikel Urigoitia Ugalde from NSW, Australia says:Tio Tomas! Just want to let you know that the more i use the Albacore, the more i like it and enjoy it. Your board is definetly making my trip! I have surfed snapper rocks 3 times with it and it has been amazing! I have enjoied the surf more than with the regular surfboard! First day it was knee high and it was super fun! And when the waves were almost head high was simply amazing!!!! So much glide, speed and control! People has stoped me recognizing your work on the seaglass project! And the last and most amazing surf for the moment has been this evening in byron bay in the point behind the rocks! It was chest high with some head high sets. Tricky hollow wave with backwash and small hollow barrels... And the Albacore has responded amazingly! I couldnt believe how well was working! I was so tired, but enjoying so much at the same time that i didnt want to stop surfing!!! TEARS OF JOY Tio Tomas! TEARS OF JOY!
