The polyester Magic model remains one of the most widely distributed and popular longboards in the Walden range.

The Magic Model is the original modern longboard. An all around performance board, it's just as fun in small surf as it is in big surf. The Magic Model hull has a unique patented design. The top half of the hull is concave; this single concave transitions into a double concave about midway and ends towards the tail, which has a moderate "V". The rails are hard.

The concave nose adds lift and stability, perfect for nose riding. The double concave hull and hard rails make the board fast, stabile, responsive, and maneuverable in all conditions. Although the rails tend to be harder than most other longboards, the unique bottom curve and beveled rails keep them from catching like most other hard rail boards.

Liz from North Caro, USA says:

Just bought a 9'2 Magic (poly construction). Speedy and smooth, stable and responsive down the line. I'm 62, 5', 120 lbs. and turn this with a big toe. Paddles like it has a prop. Thanks to Steve Walden for such a maahhvelous creation. Love it!!

I have an 8' epoxy. Great all-round board for beginner to intermediate (I'm not an advanced surfer, so you'll have to wait until I get there ;-) ) Very buoyant, so paddles well on small and medium days. Planes superbly and is extremely stable at speed. So much so that it sacrifices some manuevarability unless you move the fin forward in the slot and/or get a fin with less sweep. Maybe the harder rail plays a role here... Good nose rider, which is an attribute to the shape and volume in the nose. GSI's production and quality control is pretty good. This is a durable board that, with normal care, will deliver years of service.

Jimmy Gain from NSW Austra, Australia says:

I am 65 yrs old and have been surfing since I was 10. I have bought a Walden 8' epoxy Magic Model to use in the small summer surf. I have found that because this board is so responsive and almost surfs like a short board, I have no trouble at all jumping back on my 6' fish or my 6'2" quad. Great board and would highly recommend to all surfers.

Peter Stephens from NSW, Australia says:

I have been riding a 9' Walden Magic Model for nealy 2 years. It performs well in most surf conditions. When your fin set up is right for you, the board is very loose from the tail and has great down the line speed. I recently put it to a real test at E-Bay in the Mentawai Islands in fast hollow over head waves. Its performance blew me away. I am so rapped I just ordered a new 9'2".

Peter Ripley from New Hampsh, United States of America says:

After extensive longboard research I settled on the 9'2 Glass Magic Model. Would have gone with the 9' but got a good deal on the 9'2. I was immediately impressed with how well this board performs. Incredible turning from the tail, plenty of speed down the line, and noserides well. I've lent this board to several friends of varying abilities from beginner to intermediate, and everyone falls in love with it. Best purchase I ever made. Only problem is on bigger days when I normally take out the shortboard or fish, I'm wondering whether the magic is the call.

squirrely from texas, us says:

Bought my first 8-0" Magic directly from Steve Walden. It was my board of choice in Texas, Costa, and Peru. Just very confident when paddling out into new setups. I'm 58 yrs and last summer snapped it in two on a three foot beachbreak day in South Padre... incredible. Went right back to the shop and bought a twin to the deceased, love it even more...the second generation. The bottom contour is so unique and I still play with the fin setup a lot.

Austin Cavenaugh from North Caro, USA says:

this board is SWEET. The surf is kinda mushy most of the time here and i can still catch everything. But then some times it gets pretty steep then thats when it is great. It is awesome it turns great and is faster than most of my longboards. If you are looking at buying this you should it is fun

Sharon Brown from NY, USA says:

I won the GSI contest and got to select any board, so I read the specs and reviews on all boards over 8' long. I finally picked a Magic Model 9' glass board because it seemed like the best bet to bring my surfing to a higher level, and it definitely has. I've got more control on all kinds of waves. It holds the face easier, turns quicker and catches more waves. I have always used longboards or funboards, ranging from 8'to 9'6" some made by local shapers, some brand names costing as much as the Walden -- this Magic Model is the best!

Mark Gurman from NSW, Australia says:

This is quite simply a very good sufboard. It is fast off the bottom, quick in a straight line and responsive in a turn. The 9'6 models rides like an eight footer and cruises like a ten footer. If you try one you will buy one.

Matthew Petersen from Victoria, Australia says:

What a board. Noserides better than the 9'3" i traded in and as loose as my 6 foot shortboard. Get your fin setup right for you and the conditions and absolutely rip. Couldn't recommend a better allrounder. After 10 years of surfing and about 15 boards this is the one. This board truly does everything. Just get one.

Chris Gladwell from NSW, AUSTRALIA says:

The best board you've ridden is always the latest one you have. Thats the last time I'll say that cause the 8' Magic is it. Cresent, The Farm, Green Island or Nth end Bendy it does it for this 55 year old 95 kg dog. The 9'3" mal stays in the rack no matter if its only 2'. Paddle, take off, turn, too easy. Hold a rail, drive off the bottom, rail to rail or cruise its got the lot. I want my wife to get off her McTavish Carver and get a Wahine from Santa cause I'm getting a 7'4 Super wide for my "small board" when I find one. Thanks for a great board at a great price. Chris

Mark Gellman from CA, USA says:

I bought the epoxy 9-0 and was amazed at how forgiving and versatile a board it is. From holding in larger steeper waves to maximizing 1 foot mush, Florida to Hawaii, I've thoroughly enjoyed the 1 boardedness of it. I seem to get the most of it with standard 4" sidebites with a wide based center fin pushed all the way foward. The beveled rails make turning super easy and the big fin keeps you in, when walking to the nose or when in a steeper wave. LOVE IT!
