The volume removed from the length and redistributed it to the width and thickness while maintaining performance. It is about 1/2-3/4" thicker and 1-2" wider than a standard longboard, the Mega Magic will float like a board that is 12-18" longer. For example the bigger guy that normally rides a 10' with the Mega he can ride an 8'-9' without giving up float or stability.
The Mega Magic features the Magic bottom contours and rocker profiles allowing you to push this board to its limits. Riding this board almost feels like cheating because of the unfair advantage you have over others in the line up.
"The board turns well ,nose rides like a park bench , I normally surf boards between 10 foot and 11 foot, this board paddles as good and catches waves with ease..."

- SLX
- SLX EPOXY TECHNOLOGY
These boards are CNC milled from the shapers files and glassed by hand.
Laying up the glass this way allows us superior control of the strength to weight ratio of the boards.
SLX shapes provide the surfer with:
Controlled Flex - Each SLX board has it's a stringer and layup designed around the flex the shaper requires from each design. And it's all done by hand.
Lighter weight - You will immediately feel the light weight when picking this board up but the real benefit is the drive and projection off the bottom. You can find out more about GSI's surfboard construction on our surfboard technologies page

I would like to add this to my other review:After using this MEGA MAGIC now for 6 months I can say that returning to a board with less flotation would make no sense at all.Its just so easy to ride, that the fun factor is hightened as soon as you hit the water. No longboard that I have ridden for decades has been this easy or as enjoyable.I recomend it to all who ask about it.GET YOURS & GO SURF!...and have FUN!!!

Have had my 9-0 mega a week now & I love it.Reminds me how much fun my 24",60s slot bottoms & stepdecks were as a teenager.I just turned 60yrs old & ride Floridas crummy, sectioney waves except for those special days.Loved this board from the first paddle out(flotation, flotation, flotation)Paddles easily, catches waves easily, turns great, transitions through sections nicely.Oh,did I mention it noserides as good as it was designed too.It does!!! The only negative is the board needs a deckpatch,I am a kneepaddler from way back and after a week it already has kneewells on the deck.(Anyone else from GSI kneepaddle?)In closing I would highly recomend this board! HAVE FUN!!!

I just wanted to tell you how happy I am with the Walden Board I just purchased. I am a 58 year old NJ sufer that has been around since the days of big old longboards, through the whole transition and back again. I've owned various boards (some of which I utilized a local shaper to have my own designs realized) and surfed in various locations (from Hawaii to Puerto Rico and back), so I've been around a while. I have always wanted to ride a Walden Magic Model, so this spring while shopping for a new board I stopped in Eastern Lines in Belmar, NJ to check out the Magic Models. While comparing the various models resident in the shop, Barry pointed me to the "Mega" model. Now I had seen pictures of the template on-line, and really didn't think I would want one, then I saw it in person and I was even more unsure!! Long story short, I was convinced to purchase it by both Barry (the store mgr) and my colleague that I had brought along with me. Even as the board sat on the floor of my living room, I still had my misgivings, as I just kept saying, "it is so darn wide and thick". I have since been riding it, using a full suit no less, and find it to be INCREDIBLE!! Since I have been riding it, I have only missed/had one wave wash out underneath me (and that was one that I was pushing to see how small a wave and how far out I could catch one)!! I am still getting used to the board and find it to be very responsive as well. I can't wait to "shed the rubber" and really be able to ride it comfortably!, but I just wanted to say THANKS FOR A GREAT BOARD!! I am looking forward to spending the summer and fall on it.

1st off, I work for GSI just so you know ewhre I'm coming from and this was one of our Demo boards I used on a Demo day. I surfed the 7'2 in knee to hip high jan juc -offshore clean-and it stole the show. it was amazing, so much so then my freind who was on his 5,10 fish got fed up with me paddling back out grinning and demanded I give him a go"it was only fair". It surfs unreal, pumps like a shortboard, literally, gets heapsof speed, very easy to turn, top turn, floater etc. Great board can't ait to surf it again. I weigh 75/165 pounds and could knee padle it-just-so the floatation is unreal but still fits the wave face with the step rail. That board has changed my perception of thickness and width and perfromance -very well done Steve Walden. Another great board. I reckon you could use the 9' Mega as a SUp if you are under 70kg. I mostly surf performance shortboards so if you usually surf a larger board-then you'll love it even more than I did. Plus you can fit it on the plane.

John Thurtell from Queensland, Australia says:
Only brought the 9 foot Mega board 2 weeks ago , Straight out on nice point break 2 strokes on wave ,The board turns well ,nose rides like a park bench , I normally surf boards between 10 foot and 11 foot, this board paddles as good and catches waves with ease, i was a bit worried that the thickness of board would limit the boards performance but it doesn't , best board i have ridden by far, i am 88 kgs and floats me like the Queen Mary .I I have now surf the beach breaks with this board and i was very supprised by its speed . I would recommend this board to anyone (ANOTHER GREAT WALDEN BOARD) I have had a 10 foot magic model for 2 years which is a great board but this board for me is awesome
Mark from NSW, Australia says:
I rode this board for the first time last weekend, it was a super impressed with the board. I have the 7'2, I weight 80kgs and I was sitting high out of the water in the line up. When I turned and paddles for my first wave and it took only 2 paddles and I was up and riding. The board was super responsive, much more than I thought it would be for a big chunk of a board. It rides really well and zooms along the wave face. 2 thumbs up from me. If you are a bigger guy I reckon you could ride the 7'2 or 8'0 really easily.
